Tips for eating PLANT-BASED on a budget

Buy in bulk

When's the last time you visited the bulk food section of the grocery store? It may seem a bit intimidating and time consuming but next time...give it a shot!  It's not only very cost effective but kinda fun! 

Things you may have not thought about:
  1. If you are trying out a new recipe that calls for a spice you don't have or don't use often, purchasing that spice in bulk costs nearly pennies compared to a large jar. 
  2. If you are trying to incorporate more spices and salt-free options, trying bulk first allows you to decide what your favorites are with ease.
  3. Try making your own creative energy trail mix.  You will be shocked with how much cheaper it is!

A few great finds in the bulk section:
  • Spices
  • Nutritional yeast
  • Brown rice
  • Quinoa
  • Oats
  • Whole grain pasta
  • Raw nuts
  • Seeds
  • Legumes
  • Dried Fruit

Create "THE STAPLES" shopping list

Build a shopping list of the staples you eat on a regular basis. This not only will keep you always stocked of what you need, but it will help keep you from purchasing items you don't need (impulse).

Become a regular at your LOCAL FARMER'S MARKET

There are many ways to shop local now, such as your local farmer's market, home delivery, etc.
Checkout your local food community through LOCAL HARVEST.
